Yesterday Lunch:
-that chicken kabob salad that i love with all my heart and stomach
-green tea
-fish oil

Dinner:
-chicken and broccolli from a new local chinese place. pretty good actually. it came with like a garlic sauce and the broccolli was cooked well and the sauce was not greasy. my girlfriend didn't seem to like hers as much (spicy chicken w/ peanuts) but that could be because she still was nauseous from the incredibly hazardous cleaning products we were breathing in the floor and bathroom of my new room (my girlfriend put her body and possibly her ability to bear children on the line for me so that i may have a nice place to live. this selfless body-sacrifice is just the tip of the iceberg of why she is the best girlfriend ever and i am an amazingly lucky guy for having her in my life. for this i am extremely grateful.) i was also nauseous and had a headache, but that did not stop my eating. i am moving into a new room that i am pretty excited about. it is bigger, and for the first time ever i do not have to plan my furniture configuration to maximize available floor space. there is enough space so that i could put my bed almost anywhere and it would be fine. i don't even know what to do with myself.
-vitamin water (grape)

Today Morning:
-coffee
-protein bar

Lunch:
-steak tips and broccolli from KnowFat. this place just opened and it still had all the new problems you would associate with a new place. the empoyees were still getting the hang of the menu, and the line got a little backed up at times. still, i like the idea of publishing the nutritional information and paying attention to whether the food served is healthy or not. the menu looks good: the steak i had was delicious and the broccolli was pretty crisp. there was a sauce on the side that for some reason immediately reminded me of a dentist's office, so i didn't really use it. the place was a little expensive and i have doubts about the accuracy of their nutritional information, but overall it was impressive.
in a corner they have like a mini-GNC with sports supplements and stuff which i found a little odd. i can't imagine they will sell much whey protein or anything there. no one really needs that stuff unless they're an athlete or something, and even then it's iffy. i wonder if the supplement companies are trying to expand their market from gym meatheads to the general health-conscious populace. for marathons i've always just had gatorade during the race and something sugary after and i've been fine with that. the fancy sports drinks with electrolytes can be awesome for hangovers, though. its probably just psychological, but i feel like i'm drinking my hangover away with those.

Tuesday, August 30, 2005

Yesterday Lunch:
-tuna sandwich w/ lettuce and tomato
-chicken breast w/ broccoli, balsamic vinegar and olive oil
-carrots and peanut butter

Dinner:
-4 egg omelette w/ garlic, arugala, and asiago cheese
-1 Becks Light and 1 Tiger Beer. the Becks Light was amazing. it just disappeared after it hit my mouth. jesse compared it to budweiser strained through a britta filter. it made me think of this a little, except beer flavored. sort of. i am not dissing Beck's Light because flavorless liquid has its place but if you are looking for something that tastes like a beer then try elsewhere.

Today Morning:
-pluot
-coffee
-protein bar

Monday, August 29, 2005

Friday Dinner:
-spicy tuna tartar with homemade potato chips
-grilled swordfish with crispy local clams, two chunks of heirloom tomatoes, a difficult to eat watercress basil salad, and a chive lemon remoulade which was basically a tarter sauce, i think. did you notice that i went to a fancy restaurant again? it was restaurant week in boston. davio's. pretty good. i felt better about this meal than i did about aquitaine.
-some sort of orange-ish cocktail

Weekend Roundup:
-omega-3 egg omelettes with fabulous award-winning tomatos, shaved parmesean and chopped cilantro
-coffee
-salmon burger w/ arugala salad w/ walnuts, blue cheese, chicken chunks
-veggie potstickers w/ soy sauce
-broccoli and carrots w/ peanut butter
-several sweet potato fries w/ horseradish sauce
-2 Schiltz
-fish oil
-chicken breast w/ soy sauce and spinach
-various tomatos eaten by hand
-mixed nuts (brazil, almond, macadamia, hazelnut, cashew)
-one shot of what was purported to be homemade absinthe but was really a foul liquor that was insanely bitter even with a ton of flaming sugar added that made me feel queasy for the rest of the night. i have had real absinthe before and this stuff was like 20 different herbs throwing up in my mouth. i suppose that's what you get for drinking someone's homemade booze. i am happy that i am still alive.
-tacos w/ tortilla, chicken, beans, cheese, guacamole, salsa, tomatos. i have discovered that i like a lot of cheese in my tacos
-2 Harpoon IPA
pretty quiet weekend, really. caught up on some sleep i'd been meaning to get done.

Today Morning:
-oatmeal w/ frozen blueberries
-coffee
-protein bar

Friday, August 26, 2005

Thursday Lunch:
-tuna fish sandwich w/ lettuce and tomato
-green tea

Dinner:
-chicken consumme w/ shaved parmesean, carrots and zuccini
-1/2 roast chicken w/ isreali couscous and a delicious sauce of some kind
-profiterolle w/ vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate sauce
-1 Amstel Light
restaurant week at aquitaine. pretty good. much of the bill was paid by my girlfriend's friends, which was very nice. i feel like i should send them a card or something.

Friday Morning:
-apple
-coffee
-1 1/2 protein bar(s)

Thursday, August 25, 2005

Tuesday Lunch:
-inner circle lunch hall-of-fame charter member chicken kabob salad w/ lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pepper, hummus, tahini, chicken, falafel, hot sauce. i don't have much more to say about this salad, other than it is what sustains me and keeps my soul from fleeing my body.

Tuesday Dinner:
-green soybean pasta with red pepper marinara and pesto
-carrots w/ the omega-3 peanut butter that i love so dearly

Wednesday Morning:
-coffee
-apple

Wed Lunch:
-spinach salad w/ egg, too much onion, tomato, bacon. raw onion is just so overpowering. a little goes a long way. i could have a mouthful of like 4 different things, but if there was onion in there, onion would be all i could taste. onion does not taste so awesome that it should be allowed to bully other flavors around like that. you do not deserve your power, onion.

Wed Dinner:
-chicken burrito w/ pinto beans, cheese, salsa, sour cream. kind of eh. cheap though. i ran out of water and when i went to the soda fountain for more water i couldn't find a water thing and i was dying of thirst (i really drink a ridiculous amount of water. probably too much) so i took like 1/3 cup (w/ice) of diet coke which was the closest thing to water, i figured. the owner i guess of the place was sitting at the table next to me and kind of said hey next time don't do that please. crap. i felt bad. i don't steal (even on the internet) and i never drink soda anyway but i still feel lousy about taking the tiny amount of soda from the man. felipe's taqueria. (fyi, the man did not look like a felipe)
-what added up to probably 3 or so glasses of wine. went to a wine tasting. cotes du rhone, mostly, like 8 or 9 different kinds. they were ok. mostly pretty mild, although there was one that tasted like it had been aged in a rusty bucket in the sun near some horses for a couple days. other than that one, though, they were good. some of them had pretty labels. i used to judge wines by how pretty their labels were. i am not saying this is right but i have wound up making some pretty good choices based on solely on label prettiness. (full disclosure: ok i still sort of do this, choosing wines based on lable prettiness. i know what the good kinds of wine are, but the labels still beckon to me.)

Today Morning:
-eggs with green salsa and the last of the pesto
-coffee
-apple

Tuesday, August 23, 2005

Yesterday Dinner:
-nachos. nachos with jalapenos, tomato, sour cream, and a salsa which was spiced up with tabasco sause or something. yes, i had nachos for dinner. and i loved it.
-6 beers. 3 Magic Hat #9, 3 Bud Light. partying on a monday because my friend won some money on online poker.

Today Morning:
-oatmeal w/ maple flavoring. i dropped the bottle of maple flavor and it shattered all over the floor. the consistency of the maple substance is quite thin as it is in like an alcohol base and has an impressive splatter range. the splash "crater" had a diameter of approx 2 meters from far edge to edge and left pieces of tiny tiny glass shrapnel littering the kitchen floor. the crater was not entirely circular, since the small brown bottle (like a vanilla bottle) smashed against the floor as i was swinging my hand around (to place the bottle back on the shelf, lest you think i enjoy just standing in my kitchen swinging bottles of maple flavoring around) and lost control of the bottle while my hand was in motion, such that the bottle struck the floor with some sideways velocity. this caused the liquid to spray more in one direction rather than if it had fallen straight down and creating a circular splash pattern. it is my theory that the extra sideways velocity caused the splash area to be larger than it otherwise would be if i had simply dropped the bottle straight down with no additional force other than gravity. anyway i am trying to convey the level of mess i created as i was already late for work. basically a "holy shit" level of mess. did i mention that maple extract/flavoring stains all clothing products it comes in contact with? it does. my hands still reak of maple flavoring that is really hard to get off.

Special

Cape Cod Wedding Weekend Roundup Spectacular!!!
Friday Dinner:
-seafood kabobs w/ scallop, swordfish, zuccini, tomato, onion
-chicken breast w/ rosemary
-green beens w/ roasted red pepper
-caesar salad w/ lettuce, parmesean, caeser dressing. you know the drill.
-several beers, mostly Amstel Light. possibly 3 beers and a glass of wine.
there was an attempt at dancing, but it was in a very well lit room to a small boombox in front of family members and it just didn't feel right. it was the rehearsal dinner so it was like getting warmed up for the big event. i have a hard time dancing in front of family members because my family makes me nervous.

Saturday:
-coffee
-some kind of watermelon that was yellow inside rather than reddish pink
-protein bar
-pressed turkey sandwich w/ muenster, tomato, avocado, horseradish mayo. huge.
-pickle
-salmon, steak, green beans, red potato, salad. this is all a little hazy because i drank
-like 15 top shelf drinks. tanqueray and tonic, grey goose and tonic, bacardi and coke. a fair amount of dancing. i need a refresher on my leading skills, but my dancing knowledge goes up to about wedding level, so that i do ok at weddings (not hard to do) but anyplace more serious i am way out of my element. in clubs at least you are surrounded by people so your skills aren't completely on display all the time. i am of the hands-on let's dance like grown ups school. not that i am against the dancing in a circle with your friends thing, but i like dancing with another person in like a real way too.

Sunday Brunch:
-1/2 an everything bagel w/ veggie cream cheese and 1 thin slice of lox. got to brunch a little late and found it pretty much picked clean. animals. no coffee.
-1/3 slice of sausage quiche. was almost entirely sausage.
was told by my stepmother for the 3rd time how big a deal it that i was invited to the rehearsal dinner, "even though we kept asking XXX if she really wanted you to come and she kept insisting that she wanted you." she had food in her teeth while she was telling me this.

Monday Morning:
-oatmeal w/ berries
-coffee
-orange

Lunch:
-inner-circle lunch hall-of-fame member chacarero sandwich. chicken w/ green beans, muenster, spicy sauce and avocado green sauce.
-fish oil
-green tea

Friday, August 19, 2005

Yesterday Dinner:
-steak and spinach salad w/ tomato, avocado, and gorganzola vinegrette dressing.
-1 margarita, salt, rocks. way too sweet.
-1 rum and coke, bacardi. ok. not very good drinks at this place. perhaps the bartenders were conserving their energy for the $13 martinis. charley's, newbury st.
-1/2 glass of wine. charles shaw.

Today Breakfast:
-oatmeal w/ frozen blueberries
-coffee

Lunch:
-cobb salad w/ mixed greens, chicken, tomato, cucumber, muenster cheese, oily vinegrette. no avocado! avocado-less cobb salad. freaky. what is this world coming to? i thought avocado, blue cheese and egg was what made it a cobb salad in the first place. maybe i will try their caeser salad next time, which is a piece of beef jerky wrapped in mustard greens with cauliflower covered in a highly acidic french dressing and served in a lady's running sneaker.
-green tea
-fish oil

Am going to a wedding in Cape Cod this weekend, so stay tuned for the Cape Wedding food report. And no breaking into my house again! (full disclosure: my apartment was broken into this week. as far as i can tell, none of my food was touched.) No stealing my mail, either! (someone broke into my mailbox, too. no food in there as far as i know)

Thursday, August 18, 2005

Yesterday Lunch:
-turkey sandwich w/ lettuce, tomato
-fish oil
-carrots

Yesterday Dinner:
-chicken breast with delicious rich wine sauce w/ muchrooms, sauteed onions, fresh bread and olive oil. went out for dinner at pomodoro in the north end and it was pretty excellent. not cheap, but i was very satisfied with the value.
-1 glass white wine
-1 Miller Lite (consumed at the Neil Diamond concert. i got free tickets.)
-2 Schlitz (consumed following Neil Diamond concert during the debriefing period. Neil's still got it. he's not moving very fast, but he's still got it, that sly devil.)

Today Breakfast:
-apple
-orange
-protein bar
-coffee

Lunch:
-the chicken salad thing with the hummus and falafel and everything. damn is that a good salad. i mean jesus. i am not fucking around here. it is really good.
-fish oil
-green tea

Tuesday, August 16, 2005

Weekend Roundup:
Morning:
-omelettes with feta and spinach (there were multiple omelettes. it was that kind of weekend. plus i got these omega-3 eggs that i was pretty excited about. i am so all about omega-3 fatty acids right now. if any omega-3 fatty acids are reading this right now then let me tell you i think you guys are all right.)
-coffee

Lunch:
-spinach salad w/ ground turkey, otherworldly tomatos, and vinagrette dressing (ok, I bought about 3 lbs of spinach at the store. I'm not sure why. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I have all this spinach.
-lemon garlic chicken breast sandwich w/ a jalapeno mayo that i made that didn't come out as badly as i had feared.
-yogurt w/ oat bran and berries
-carrots and omega-3 peanut butter (they make omega-3 enriched peanut butter. I'm crazy about this stuff.)

Dinner:
-spinach salads w/ ground beef, cucumber, tomato from the garden of our lord him/herself
-pizza w/ broccoli and mushroom
-cheeseburger w/ tomato (not the amazing gift from the heavens kind, but not terrible. was at a bbq.) kind of a depressing weekend though, for various reasons.
-3 beers (1 Corona w/lime, 1 Corona Light w/lime, 1 Sam Adams Summer Ale)
-2 mixed drinks of some kind. they were blue and had cubes of blue frozen jello floating in them.

Monday Morning:
-oatmeal with protein and frozen blueberries
-coffee
-protein bar

Lunch:
-spinach salad w/ tomato, onion, egg, bacon, ground turkey, and honey dijon dressing
-carrots
-green tea
-fish oil

Dinner:
-salmon burger with the last of the unbelievably good tomatos (R.I.P. my darlings) and teriyake sauce
-spinach salad w/ cucumber, white and orange pepper, feta, onion, diced chicken breast, black soybean pasta, (for color. I don't know if you've seen the black soy pasta, but it just looks awesome all thrown on a salad. the black really sets of the white of the feta and pepper and the colors just look ridicuously pretty together. if you're looking to make an impressive looking with a little exotic touch, this is a good way to go. sadly, i had no one to show the salad to. maybe i will get a camera so you can get a sense of how nice this salad looked. i got a little teary before i ate the salad if you want to know the truth, but that could be because i was eating it alone in a basement with my girlfriend away and like some shit weighing on me, but that goes outside the strict confines of this blog's subject matter. sorry.) and diced chicken (marinaded in a sweet pepper sauce).

Today Morning:
-because i ate the same thing i always do, i will make up an alternate breakfast that i have no intention of eating ever. it's opposite day!
-McDonald's sausage/egg/cheese biscuit sandwich (i worked at McDonald's briefly in my early teens and was fascinated by the health consequences of this product. it was like eating a small tub of shortening. and not in a good way.)
-decaf coffee
-a human baby arm

Friday, August 12, 2005

Yesterday Lunch:
-chicken kabob salad with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pepper, hummus, falafel, and tahini sauce. always a delicious salad.
-green tea
-fish oil

Dinner:
-salmon with lemon and real vanilla bean. i don't know if you've ever used vanilla bean, but it is ungodly expensive. very vanilla-y and tasty, but wow. this was an expensive meal.
-omellete with feta and broccoli

Today Morning:
-oatmeal with frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, schnozzberries.)
-coffee

Thursday, August 11, 2005

Yesterday Lunch:
-chacarero sandwich. the chacarero sandwich is supposedly a Chilean sandwich made with chicken or beef, a slice of gouda, red peppers, green beans, a green spicy sauce and an avocado-y guacamole type sauce. It is a masterpiece of sandwich design and execution. It uses (i guess) special chacarero bread that is tasty in a buttery, rich sort of way, like a portugese bread but not as sweet. just an outstanding sandwich. I have no idea if these sandwiches have anything to do with Chile or what, but they are highly recommended no matter what their origin.
-green tea
-fish oil

Dinner:
-spinach and ground beef salad with peanut sauce
-flax seed chips
-broccoli w/ chunky natural peanut butter
-1 Michelob light. Michelob is a funny looking word.
-half a melon i got from the farm share. i don't know what kind of melon it is, but it is smallish and looks like a watermelon except it is yellow inside! crazy! it was really juicy and dripped all over me but i slurped on it like a little kid and made a mess.
-more fish oil

Today Morning:
-apple
-1/4 of a cantaloupe
-coffee

Wednesday, August 10, 2005

-green tea
-tuna salad w/ walnuts and grapes
-fish oil

Dinner:
-gouda and wine fondue with vegetable crudite
-tuna tatare with sesame seaweed salad

Today Morning:
-oatmeal w/ frozen blueberries
-protein bar
-apple
-coffee

Lunch:
-tofu with onions, red and green peppers, and carrots in a sugary thai sauce. went to the really cheap thai place where all their food is flavored with extra sugar. everything is spicy and sweet. even the peanut sauce was like candy. the people who serve you the food are very nice, though, so I keep going back even though I break out into sugar sweats during and after the meal.
-green tea
-fish oil

Monday, August 08, 2005

Weekend food roundup:
Morning:
-omelette w/feta, broccoli and tomato
-oatmeal (ok, let me just explain something about the oatmeal. i eat a lot of it, it is true. i eat oatmeal of the steel-cut variety 1) because steel-cut sounds manly and tough and 2) because it is better for you and less processed than instant oatmeal. it doesn't even take that much longer to cook than instant if you cook it in a large bowl in the microwave. it will boil over and cover your microwave with a concrete oatmealyness (that no amount of cursing will remove) if you don't use a big bowl. oatmeal is also good for your skin and stuff and it fills you up like crazy.)
coffee (the cheap maxwell house type stuff)
-apple

Lunch:
-spinach salad with ground beef and orange sesame dressing
-cucumber w/ peanut butter
-turkey sandwich w/ gorgeous, red, absolutely perfect and delicious tomato from the farm share. the tomato was pretty much the platonic ideal of tomatos. it was amongst the top 5 best tomatos i've ever had in my life.
-yogurt with oat bran and frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blackberries, reaspberries)
-flax seed tortilla chips from trader joe's
-apple

Dinner:
-salmon burger
-broccoli with peanut sauce
-chicken breast w/ lemon, garlic and parsley
-omelette w/ feta and salsa
-fish oil
-6 1/2 drinks. 3 Harpoon Summer Ale, 1 1/2 Margarita, 2 Michelob light.

Today Morning:
-usual oatmeal
-protein bar
-coffee

I have not gone out to a restaurant in a really long time. Strange. I will go soon.

Friday, August 05, 2005

Ok, I am not doing as well as I would like in updating this. I will try to be better for the sake of whatever poor soul may be interested.

Morning Food Roundup (last couple days):
-oatmeal w/ protein stuff and frozen berries. I should just write a small program that automatically fills this in.
-coffee (new kinds of coffees recently. rainforest nut, belgian chocolate nut, and hazelnut. I'm into nutty coffees now)

Lunch Roundup:
-chicken kabbo salad with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pepper, falafel, hummus, chicken and tahini sauce. I've had this like 3 times this week because once I forgot my money and they just gave it to me for free so I went back twice out of guilt and gratitude and to pay them back. It's a damn good salad though so I'm not puting myself out or anything.
-spinach salad with spinach, ground turkey and orange sesame dressing
-chicken parmesean sandwich. one of those sandwiches you buy in the convenience store. completely unimpressive. noteworthy in its lack of charm. why do I keep getting this sandwich? I do not really like it yet I am helpless to resist.

Dinner Roundup:
-didn't have dinner last night, unless you count peanuts eaten at the movies. Did have 5 beers, however. 2 Bud Light, 3 Schlitz.
-omelette w/ spinach, broccoli and cheese
-tuna salad w/ lettuce, tuna, and balsamic vinagrette dressing
-fish oil

Tuesday, August 02, 2005

Hey! I am back!

So I was on vacation on a lovely island off the coast of New England where they really did have pretty decent food. I mean, for an island that has to ship all of its supplies in by boat daily. Not a ton of fresh vegetables, but honestly I can't complain because I just ate a tremndous amount of food. Some things I ate:

Mornings:
Lots of oatmeal
maypo (I am still unsure of what this is exactly.)
cheesy eggs
grapefruit (grapefruit is another experience where I never really liked grapefruit before, but here I just forced myself to ignore the sourness and wound up liking it. My force of will only grows stronger.)

Lunches:
tomato soup w/grilled cheese
various salads, often including walnuts
deli meats
other soups that weren't that great
lots of pears

Dinners:
steak (!) with like a roquefort sauce. memorable.
occasional broccoli. lots of salads and al dente root vegetables
chicken breasts, pork, turkey. various meats. suprisingly little fish for a place surrounded on all sides by water. there was salmon once but it was probably from a farm in Japan.
a tasty bean and plaintain vegetable dish that I had instead of sheperd's pie because I am not a fan of meaty pies
dessert was served at nearly every meal, but I only went for the good ones, like a mini key lime pie thing.

Yesterday Morning:
-oatmeal w/ protein stuff
-apple

Lunch:
-spinach salad w/ tomato, egg, onion, bacon, honey dijon
-fish oil

Dinner:
-yogurt and oat bran with fresh fruit
-grilled mahi mahi w/ crushed almonds and soy ginger marinade
-1 can Pabst Blue Ribbon

Today Morning:
-huevos rancheros
-apple

Lunch:
-chicken parmesean sandwich
-carrots w/ peanut butter
-fish oil
-green tea
